ITINERARY
DIA 01: MACHU PICCHU
To begin our Machu Picchu Exploring the Citadel Tour we will pick you up from your hotel and leave Cusco early in the morning, traveling by private bus to the living Inca town of "Ollantaytambo" in the Sacred Valley where we will board our train to Aguas Calientes. With beautiful scenery throughout the journey, the train ride itself is another great experience. Following the course of the river through the Sacred Valley you will arrive in Aguas Calientes.
Upon arrival in the city of Aguas Calientes, our guide will be there to welcome you and take you directly to the bus station to head to Machu Picchu "One of the seven wonders of the modern world" for your guided tour. The guided tour will last about 2 and a half hours during which you will learn about the Incas and visit all the most important areas of the citadel.
Later we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes where we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then continue by private van to Cusco (our Machu Picchu Tour will end at your hotel).
DAY 02:7 COLOR MOUNTAIN TOUR
Between 3:45 am and 4:15 am, we will pick you up directly from your hotel to begin our journey south of Cusco through the beautiful landscapes of inter-Andean valleys and agricultural communities. First through our transportation, we will travel for approximately 2 hours to the town of Cusipata (3,329 m / 12,772 ft.) After breakfast in Chillihuani we will travel on a trail through the mountains for another hour, accompanied by our first views of Ausangate, Cusco's highest peak. On the way, we will pass herds of hundreds of alpacas and llamas and the occasional herder or local people moving about their daily activities. Our ascent on foot will begin at Phuluwasipata and will last approximately 2 hours, taking us to our final destination and highest point on our Rainbow Mountain hike (or Vinicunca hike), at 5,020 mts / 16,470 ft.
Here we will stop to admire and appreciate the breathtaking views in all directions and the rare geological formations that seem to be painted with exotic colors by the hand of God. Far below and in the distance are endless valleys and glaciers as far as the eye can see. We will stop for about 30 minutes, the perfect amount of time to rest, have a snack and immerse ourselves in this wild environment before beginning our descent, about an hour and a half to the point where we started the hike at Phuluwasipata, there our transport will be waiting to take us to the restaurant in Chillihuani, where we will enjoy an energizing lunch. We will have time after lunch to visit some of the local homes and observe the lifestyle and customs still practiced since Inca times. The native language of Quechua is well spoken here and agriculture is essential to life.
At the end of the day, our tour will conclude with an opportunity to meet with the community.
